Get The Hook October 19, 2012

When I heard Romney’s hilarious speech at the Al Smith Dinner last night, I thought of something:
SOMEBODY in that room was infuriated. That somebody was made angry not just at the jokes themselves, but at the delighted responses from the audience. Only HE is allowed to get away with making jokes about his wonderful self. Only HE is permitted to get the big laughs. It wasn’t just that some of those jokes were wickedly funny, pointed, and spot on, but that they were so well-received by everybody there. (see video below)
For a narcissist like the current rodent, having to endure someone else getting that kind of applause and enthusiasm was the last infuriating straw. It’s bad enough that his numbers around the country appear to be tanking, but it’s even worse that somebody he despises was able to make such hilarious hay out of his failures.
Reminding a narcissist of his failures is like setting fire to his tail. I’d imagine that he is still pacing the floor and trying to think up the perfect squelch. Well, I wish him good luck with that. His time is up. Get the hook.

It struck me when I watched the video that Obama is not used to being talked to or about in such a way. Romney really did go where others have refused to tread, and it was wickedly funny. It’s good to see the bubble being burst in such a way. Obama may have to get used to such treatment, as if he loses the election, the gloves everywhere will be coming off.
The (so-called) media are to blame for a lot of it. Their sycophantic sucking up and nodding like bobbleheads at his every witless pronouncement has given him the idea that he is a real “chrysostom.” Like a bratty kid who sasses and swears at his parents with impunity, he has gotten away with this all his life without ever even knowing that words have meanings and consequences, let alone experiencing any of them.
And, as you say, it is good to see him getting a comeuppance. For quite a while, Romney appeared to be rather unwilling to flick the naked emperor’s bare fanny with a towel, but lately, it’s been pretty encouraging. The crowds turning out to see him understand that SOMETHING is happening. Me, too.
