This great little video shows what happens when children are encouraged to really LEARN, and are not indoctrinated. This man has a great love for children. Makes me want to become part of the “Granny-Cloud.” (you’ll see in the video) Pass this around.

I have a suspicion that the “good old days of education” are one of the reasons for the recent emphasis on letting old people die and get out of the way (also known as “Obamacare”).

Yes, sorry, I forgot. I still remember when public education was about education. It just worked so well back then, … Ah, well.

English is a very complex language. Vernacular and idiom often defy rules of grammar, so that will make things easier for them.

I would think the children are learning phonetically, but since they are in their “peak learning years” they are going to soak up an amazing amount of the finer points just through repetition and “osmosis.” I knew how to speak correct English long before I knew which grammar rules covered what usage.

I have always loved languages, and have studied Esperanto, Spanish, German, Czech, and Signing Exact English. Kids learn what they love.

“I have to wonder why more governments are not jumping on these ideas to teach their poor.” Well, gee whiz… they don’t teach these things because they are not in the business of EDUCATING kids, but of indoctrinating them. The last thing they want is a curious, interested child eager to learn new things, and any children who exhibit this curiosity will be “corrected.” It’s pretty apparent from the video that if given even the slightest opportunity and encouragement, the kids will teach themselves.

I recall seeing that TED talk once before and thinking it was perfectly amazing. I am somewhat stumped as to how you would use that approach to get kids to learn things like English grammar, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, etc. The mechanics of language were never fun things in my thinking, but rather were just plain dog work. They just had to be committed to memory by the most brutal means. I can’t imagine anything that could excite me to learn them, other than the fear of a test over the material tomorrow morning.

That said, the man has some amazing ideas, and I have to wonder why more governments are not jumping on these ideas to teach their poor.
