How To Tweak A Liberal December 9, 2009

Sarah and Todd Palin showed up at the Gridiron Dinner dressed to tweak the arrogant leftists, and did they EVER. P.S. Sarah’s purse isn’t otter…it’s seal/sea lion. It looks like it is made by a Native artist. More class than the sanctimonious sporters-of-all-things-faux-French. Classy of the Palins to exhibit some Alaskan crafts, typical of Bonnie Fwank to recoil from Sarah’s ivory cross pendant. Click the link and note the expression on the face of the woman behind Sarah. What a picklepuss.
Note to libs: QUIT TAKING YOURSELVES SO DAMNED SERIOUSLY. TIME TO GET OVER YOURSELVES.

The fact that it was crafted by a Native artist was what interested me. I’m sure Sarah has all kinds of “regular” evening bags, and I don’t think its “attractiveness” was what appealed to her. (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, remember?) But she wanted to express a little more of the pride she feels in Alaska and its people. The ivory cross pendant was probably hand carved by another Native artisan. And Todd’s obvioulsy proud of his Alaskan cummerbund. Their sense of whimsy and wry wit is simply lost on grouchy soreheads with no curiosity or sense of humor, like Bonnie Fwank, or that snarling face in the background behind Sarah.
I also look for unique things like these when I shop at the craft fairs around here. Handmade Alaskana is unique. Where else but Alaska can you find something really tacky made with $500 worth of seal fur or carved from walrus ivory, baleen, or a pendant as big as the end of your thumb that is simply one raw nugget of Alaskan gold hanging on a chain? Most of us who have been here for long would rather have something really Alaskan than something that simply repeats what everybody Outside is doing, wearing, or carrying.
It’s hard for people who haven’t experienced Alaska to understand the attitude we have here about things like this. The “uniquer,” the better, as far as many of us are concerned. Being worried about what other people think of our clothes seldom enters our minds. We think “Show and Tell” is the best part of any get-together. Unique jewelry and accessories are always big hits.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she was hoping the items would be conversation starters, and I’m sure that the people in the room were so smug and superior they didn’t WANT to know the significance of anything the Palins brought, and that was their loss…
I’d have to say, that purse is truly odder than just about anything I have seen, even if you say it is seal and sea lion! Not very attractive. Was that selected by Michelle’s wardrobe folks for her?
I’m sure it must have simply driven them all wild just to have Sarah and Todd in the room. They are not accustomed to having authentic people in the room with them, and that hased to have been difficult for them.
